Besides the most famous 4th of July festivals in North Carolina, you can always consider some smaller community celebrations for a change. The town of Kernersville, 10 miles (16 km) east of Winston-Salem, offers a great schedule of events for the whole family.

Kernersville 4th of July Race and Parade

Kernersville festivities start at 8:30 am with a 5K run, followed by a red, blue, and white parade at 9 am. Kernersville's 4th of July Parade has been held since 1990, organized by the Rotary Club of Kernersville. The procession, which marches through downtown Kernersville, is led by veterans, who are given special recognition. Line-up starts at 8 am at Kernersville Elementary. The procession leaves from the school and finishes on Broad St. by Bank of NC at approximately 10:30 am. Kernersville 4th of July 5K Race runs half an hour before the parade on the same route through downtown, so runners are the first ones to get cheered on by the crowds.

Kernersville 4th of July Fireworks

The evening program in Kernersville begins at 5 pm and features food trucks, live entertainment starting at 6:30 pm, and fireworks at 9:15 pm. Kernersville 4th of July wraps up by 10 pm. Note that the event runs thanks to its sponsors, namely Lawrence & Etta Lea Pope Foundation, Kernersville Chamber of Commerce, Best Logistics Group, and TOK Parks & Recreation.
