Cappadocian wine is highly appreciated in Turkey. After all, it's one of the oldest viniculture centers in the country. Cultivation of grapes here could be traced It can be traced back to the Hittites times and Byzantine empire. The traditions were continued under Greek Christian population who resided in that area, and it virtually continues until today.

Göreme, Ürgüp, Uçhisar and Ortahisar are known for their excellent vineyards so don't hesitate to try some. October not only marks the wine season. It's also the month when local people cook delicious grape syrup pekmez. The fruit has to be boiled down for several hours over an open fire, and is then used in many desserts and sweet treats.
