Kennywood is probably one of the best places to visit during a holiday season in the Pittsburgh area. One of the finest traditional amusement parks in America offers great rides, entertainment, and holiday decorations adorned with about two million twinkling lights. There is the tallest Christmas tree in the state of Pennsylvania, holiday performances and light shows. Kids can visit Santa Claus and other famous characters. Opening night of the Holiday Lights extravaganza features a spectacular fireworks display.
Established in 1898, Kennywood Amusement Park offers over 40 rides and attractions. It includes traditional swings, coasters, and the public's favorite Steel Curtain, a 220-ft (67-m) two-minute adrenaline speedy track. Younger kids can enjoy a ride on a famous merry-go-round called the soul of Kennywood. The William Dentzel Company designed the historical handcrafted carousel in Philadelphia. It includes 50 jumping and 14 stationary horses, a lion and a tiger, as well as Jesters & Cherubs. The youngest visitors also can get their faces painted in a variety of fun characters and designs across from the merry-go-round and in Kiddieland.
The holiday program in Kennywood Park also includes a special Dinner with Santa where kids can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet followed by a visit from the Big Man himself. Children can take pictures with Santa and his reindeer and tell him about their holiday wishes.
