If you enjoy contemporary arts, music and odd traditions, you'll love Tasmanian annual Dark Mofo festival. It offers a wide range of activities such as art exhibitions, local theatre performances, light installations and Bacchanalian feasting all bounded on the winter solstice theme.

Although, the festival is one of the landmarks of Hobart’s cultural life, some of the traditions may seem to you wild and barbarian. The most striking one is naked swimming at dawn. Around 1,000 daredevils celebrate the solstice diving into the freezing water of the river Derwent. Such nudie tradition has already become one of the most well-known attractions of Hobart, gathering hundreds of people raring to take part in the event or just watch.

If you enjoy festivals, are into off-gauge arts, night gigs and can stay up till dawn, Dark Mofo festival is your absolute must!
