The St. George Marathon starts at the picturesque Pine Valley mountains at an altitude 1,598 m and takes the runners down 792 m through the beautiful scenery of southwest Utah to Worthen Park. Participants may enjoy the beautiful white, pink, and red sandstone formations as well as dark basalt in the Snow Canyon State Park.

This marathon is rated in a top ten most scenic and fastest marathons by the Runner's World. It is also the 13th largest marathon in the United States. Wheelchair participants start first at 6:40 AM, the runners start the second at 6:45 AM. The runners must complete the race within six hours.

The race takes place on the first Saturday in October. The registration opens in early spring and stays open till the end of June or until the needed number of runners is reached. The marathon usually accommodates 7,400 runners. If the number of registered is larger than admissible, the participants are chosen by random lottery.
