Festival History
The Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival, held in Taiwan for the Lantern Festival, is a very special folk thing and an important religious event in Taiwan. It started in the late 19th century, during the Qing Dynasty, when Yanshui town faced a bad plague. The townspeople, worried and needing help, prayed to Guan Yu, a deity. Legend says this deity told them to set off fireworks and follow his chair at night. By morning, the plague lessened, and this event turned into an annual thing.
