According to the Pa Then ethnic group traditions, young boys who participate in the festival must train and prepare the offerings to the Fire God and the Water God while worshiping for 2-4 hours. These offerings usually include boiled chicken, 10 cups of rice, some wine, wood and special ritualistic bamboo paper. Later, a five meters wide fire will be set and the participants will jump straight into it.

The dance is really dangerous, therefore special techniques and methods are taught to the participants by a skilful elderly magician. The ritual portrays the power of human in times of danger and the power of belief to fight against evil forces. You can find Pa Then people mostly living in Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces.
