The central activity of the Fire Dancing Festival is the fire-jumping ritual, or "Nhảy lửa." Participants, often young men, leap barefoot into blazing coal fires, kick up live embers, and sometimes dig into the coals with their hands or place live coals in their mouths. Despite the apparent danger, these participants emerge unscathed, which the Pa Then attribute to the blessings of the Fire God.

The dance is inherently dangerous, requiring participants to learn special techniques and methods from a skilled elderly magician. This ritual showcases human resilience in the face of danger and the strength of belief in combating evil forces.

The festival also includes a prayer ceremony led by shamans, where offerings such as boiled chicken, rice, wine, and ritualistic bamboo paper are presented to the Fire God to invoke blessings of health, luck, and prosperity.

The Fire Dancing Festival has been celebrated for generations by the Pa Then ethnic group, who regard fire as a supreme deity capable of warding off evil and disease. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2012, the festival aims to preserve and promote the unique traditions of this community.
