Skiing season in Oslo is quite a long one, and many famous resorts are in a close vicinity – just a 30-minute drive from the city centre. The largest and most popular skiing resort in Oslo is Skimore Oslo, also know as Oslo Winter Park. It includes 18 slopes and 11 lifts for every level skier. Another well-known resort is Oslo Ski Center which has only two hills but is really popular among both tourists and townsfolk. Apart from these two, there are several other places to ski around the city, so you have plenty of options to choose from.
Ski Season
Norwegian ski resorts start opening their doors to visitors in late November-December, operating until mid-spring through April. Ski season is generally shorter in Oslo and other resorts in the southern part of the country, with skiing spanning until March or the end of Easter. The peak months fall on January-March, so you can expect great snowy conditions during this time and more people on the slopes.
Skimore Oslo
Skimore Oslo, also known as Oslo Winter Park and Tryvann, is conveniently located 15 minutes away from Oslo's city centre by metro. Those looking for accommodation in the heart of Oslo can easily access the resort through the nearest metro stop, Voksenkollen. Skiing equipment rental services and lifts are available directly at the resort.
Hours
During the early season until December 20th, the ski area is open from 10 am until 10 pm from Monday through Friday and from 9 am until 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Until January 1st, it stays open from 9 am until 5 pm, except for closure on Christmas Eve. Until the end of March, you can visit the resort from 10 am until 10 pm Monday-Friday and from 9 am until 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Prices
Daily guest passes cost 510 Norwegian Krone for adults 16-66 years old, 430 NOK for seniors and children 7 to 15 years old, and 195 NOK for toddlers up to 6 years old. Membership costs 799 NOK per month for a family of five, 289 NOK per month for an individual, and 119 NOK per months for toddlers.
Oslo Ski Center
Just north of the city center, Oslo Ski Center welcomes skiers of all levels to experience this beloved winter sport the Norwegian way. Featuring five slopes, four lifts, and magnificent cross-country trails, the resort is a perfect choice for those who wants to try skiing not far from their accommodation at the capital. If you're a seasoned snowboarder or skier, consider going up on Grefsenkleiva, the slope of which approximately 2952 feet (900 m) long. You can try ski jumping here and various obstacle courses. Trollvannskleiva is a better choice for beginners, with easier tracks and less steep slopes.
Tickets & Hours
One-day ski pass costs 410 Norwegian Krone for adults and 360 Norwegian Krone for children under 15 years old. The lifts are open from 5 to 9 pm on weekdays and from 10 am until 5 pm on weekends. On Christmas, winter holidays, and Easter holidays, they stay open from 10 am until 5 pm daily.
Other Ski Resorts
Besides Tryvann and Oslo Ski Center, Oslo offers other popular skiing destinations, including Varingskollen and Kirkerudbakken Ski Centre. Varingskollen is especially popular with families with young children, while Kirkerudbakken Ski Centre is known for its well-maintained runs. All these resorts are within a 30-minute drive from the city center, offering various slopes for different skill levels and activities.
