The Colorado Marathon (also known as the Fort Collins Old Town Marathon) takes place in early May in Fort Collins. A considerable part of the course goes through the Poudre River Canyon in the northern part of the state. The Colorado Marathon is often mentioned for "America's Most Scenic Course". And the course is not just beautiful but flat too. It goes slightly downhill for the majority of the race. The finish line of the marathon is in Old Town Square Fort Collins.
The main obstacle with the Colorado Marathon is the weather. From freezing temperature, snow flurries and fresh powder snow to real heat and high temperature,—environment for a marathon is rather unpredictable. Lions Park is a scenic spot along the Poudre River, a favorite of many runners. 4,000 participants are expected to toe the lines of the marathon, and other shorter races on race day.
One of the best things about Colorado Marathon is the Post-Race Party with a few bands playing on the stage at Washington Park. Beer Garden will be serving a few locally brewed beers.
