There are several species of barracuda in Fiji, and this kind of fishing is naturally divided into amateur and game fishing. Little barracuda can be caught trolling in shallow waters. The bigger ones, which can grow to 2m, is fished with prepared dead bait. The tropical barracuda is also a popular delicacy in the Fiji islands; it is the main island's dish called "Kokoda" (raw fish in coconut milk and lemon juice).
You can fish for barracuda all year round, but from December to March schools of barracuda are the most abundant.
