Though lychees originate in China, these small red fruits became widely popular on Mauritius and even have a variety named after the island. The tastiest lychees are the ripe ones yet they should be firm and give a little when squeezed. Once you find the perfect ones—all you have to do is peel them and enjoy the tender flesh.
