New Hampshire Marathon, which takes place in early October, is carefully timed to showcase the natural beauty of New England during the fall season. This small, runners-friendly event is also a Boston Qualifier, offering a full marathon distance, half-marathon, 10K and Kids Run. About 500 runners take part in the race.
The beautiful course goes around Newfound Lake featuring spectacular views of the water surrounded by stunning fall foliage. The large lake is a local landmark attracting many visitors with swimming, boating, fishing, and other activities.
The marathon and 10k races start at 9 am on Lake Street, in front of the Newfound Memorial Middle School (155 N. Main St) in Bristol. Then the course travels north on Route 3A, Groton Road, West Shore Road and Lake Street and goes back to the finish line near Kelley Park along North Main street. The half marathon route starts at beyond Sculptured Rocks and runs along the second half of the marathon course.
There are few more events throughout the marathon weekend. The youngest ones can join the Kids Marathon after 9 am on the day of the Marathon. On Friday preceding the marathon, runners gather for a pasta party at the Union Lodge in Bristol to load up on carbs before the tough race.
