Route
The Taipei Marathon starts in front of Taipei City Hall and ends inside Taipei Stadium. The course heads west along Renai Road into Zhongzheng District for about 5 km (3 miles), then north along Zhongshan Road, crossing the Keelung River. Runners follow the river east until a turnaround near the Nangang Exhibition Center, then return west to Yingfeng Dog Park, heading south and joining Nanjing Road before finishing at the stadium.
The half marathon also begins at City Hall and finishes on Nanjing Road, using much of the marathon route but spending less time in Zhongzheng District. It crosses the Keelung River to the west via the Second MacArthur Bridge before heading to the finish.
History of Taipei Marathon
On December 22, 1985, the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association organized a road running demonstration to prepare for the first Taipei International Marathon. This inaugural event took place on March 9, 1986, with over 2,000 runners, including elite athletes from seven nations, racing through Taipei. Both the start and finish lines were on Ketagalan Boulevard, establishing a new tradition in the city.
