Christmas Market in Stuttgart

Stuttgart Christmas Market is one of the largest and most popular in Germany and even the whole of Europe. Dating back to 1692, Stuttgart Christkindleinmarkt is also one of the oldest on the continent. It currently attracts more than 3.5 million visitors to Marktplatz in the city center, with the beautiful Old Castle, Collegiate Church, and the baroque New Castle in the background.

Market Activities & Entertainment

The market features about 300 stalls offering handmade gifts and crafts, in particular, wooden toys, crib figurines, jewelry, ornaments, candles, and apparel. In addition to that, Christmas market is an excellent place to indulge in seasonal delights, and delicacies. Walk the illuminated alleys of the market, enjoy some bratwurst, glühwein, and Advent music!

Entertainment at Marktplatz includes live concerts, a midway with carousels, children's rides, and a real mini steam engine. The courtyard of the Old Palace is always bustling with crowds, watching mesmerizing performances of local music ensembles. Stiftskirche annually hosts holiday organ concerts, while trombone choirs perform on the weekends at the collegiate church.

Advent Calendar

One of the main highlights of the market is the giant Advent Calendar displayed on the Rathaus, Starting from December 1, a window of the calendar, dedicated to one of Stuttgart's boroughs, opens up on the city hall. Each of the sections is decorated with beautiful Christmas lighting, offering mesmerizing sights for the public.

With the grand opening on November 27th, which will begin at 6 pm in the courtyard of the Old Palace. Stuttgart Christmas Market welcomes visitors daily. The grounds are open from 11 am until 9 pm from Sunday through Thursday and from 11 am until 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Consider arriving at least several hours before closing to fully enjoy all the festivities of this vibrant market.

Like many other holiday markets in Germany, Stuttgart Christmas Market is free to attend. However, you'll need to budget for vendor goods, beverages, delicious food, and various attractions at the market, such as rides.

Other Christmas Markets in Stuttgart

In addition to the main Christmas market, Stuttgart hosts the Antique Market and Finnish Winter Village on Karlsplatz. Stuttgart Flohmarkt, also known as the Flea or Antique Market, operates every Saturday, except for public holidays, from 8 am until 4 pm. The Finnish Winter Village is set to take place from November 27th to December 21st this year. Offering a taste of Finland in Germany, the market is open from 11 am until 9 pm from Monday through Thursday, from 11 am to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11 am until 9 pm on Sundays. On November 27th, the Winter Village is open until 9 pm, while on the last day, it's open until 8 pm.
