Bruges Christmas Markets 2024-2025 in Belgium

A special occasion full of the festive hustle and bustle, Belgian delicacies, and authentic holiday gifts

Dates: November 22, 2024–January 5, 2025

The capital of West Flanders is irresistibly enchanting between late November and early January, when Bruges' historic city center transforms into a giant winter wonderland. The festival, called Winter Glow, offers a holiday lights trail, a winter bar, and ice skating on the Minnewater, aka Lake of love. But the most favorite part of the festive season in the city must be holiday shopping at the two Brugge Christmas markets spreading over Markt and Simon Stevinplein (Markt Square and Simon Stevin Square).

Bruges Christmas Market Highlights

Bruges Christmas markets promise an exceptional atmosphere, enhanced by the illuminated medieval facades. You will discover a wide range of stalls selling the best Belgian goodies, including homemade hot chocolate, Christmas beers, spiced glühwein, ice-cold jenever, diverse cheeses, and a host of hearty dishes.

Moreover, you can buy authentic crafts, like Belgian lace, holiday décor, and a unique hand-made gift for your special friend. In addition, the visitors are entertained by choral concerts and other seasonal jollities. On the Markt, you will find everything you would expect from a traditional Christmas market, while at Simon Stevinplein, the focus is on locally sourced and handcrafted products.

Opening Hours

Bruges Christmas Markets operate from Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm and from Friday through Saturday from 10.30 am to 11 pm. On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the markets will be open until 5 pm. On Christmas Day and New Year's Day, they will run with limited offerings and reduced opening hours.

Location

Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities in northwest Belgium. Take your time to explore its fancy cobbled streets full of medieval buildings, see its canals, a Zeebrugge port, and numerous picture-perfect sights. The city is charming during the day and night and is worth spending a night or two.
