Elafonissi beach is a unique tropical beach which is also suitable for snorkelling. Platanios Beach, located close to Chania, is appropriate for both snorkelling and diving.

Scuba diving season in Greek waters lasts from April to October or even November. For non-divers, Crete provides many snorkelling tours. These are the most rewarding during September and October when certain species move to the shallow waters for reproduction. It's recommended to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, one or two hours before the sunset.
