Kowhai trees bear yellow flowers which are considered New Zealand's national flower. Their bright colour diversifies green sameness of New Zealand's forests, and sweet scent allures tuis and bellbirds. Kowhai flowers are splendid during the first half of spring, particularly in the forests of the North Island. The image of flowers is depicted on coins and postage stamps.
