Australian Outback Marathon 2024

The most authentic running experience in Australia

Dates: July 27, 2024

Australian Outback Marathon is a unique experience that has to be in the bucket list of every runner. It's not every day that you will get to run in the middle of nowhere! Participants get to stay at five different resorts located near the famous Uluru, or Ayers Rock, which is a huge sandstone monolith in the middle of the Northern Territory’s desert-like plain called "Red Centre." The nearest city from here is Alice Springs, 450km away. The scenic course with the iconic Uluru and Kata Tjuta on the backdrop is what makes this marathon so unique.

Thousands of amateur, professional and club runners are attracted to this marathon and the opportunity to see the “heart” of Australia. In addition to the full marathon, there is a half marathon, 11km (6.84mi), and 6km (3.73mi) fun run options. The course is quite flat, with a few small inclines. It includes dirt roads, bush tracks, soft-sand trails, and a few small sand dunes. You will beat plenty of Australia’s famed “Red Earth”!

Since there is limited visitor capacity in Uluru, the number of runners is kept rather small. Participants of the Australian Outback marathon need to register in advance and book the package that includes marathon fee, shuttle service, and accommodation.
