The city's downtown boasts two gorgeous rose gardens—Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste, and La Rosaleda de El Retiro both of are never more splendid than in May and June when roses are in full bloom. Madrid's rose gardens are among favourite places for recreation. Walks its neatly groomed trails, and admire the pensively laid out gardens and fountains.
The parks count thousands of rose bushed (El Retiro, for example, boasts over 4,000.) Each flower seems to have its own scent. In the first half of May, Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste hosts the annual contest for the best flower of the year which is called "Concurso Internacional de Rosas Nuevas de la Villa de Madrid."
