Held since the 1980s, the race is one of the most prestigious marathons in the world. Its course running from Runaway Bay to Burleigh Heads is famous for breathtaking coastal views. It passes many of Queensland's renowned surf beaches. It's also quite flat and smooth. Australian winter boasts moderate temperatures and low humidity—ideal conditions for running.

The thriving atmosphere with live local entertainment at various points along the route make this marathon not only fun to run, but fun to watch as well.
