Beautiful architecture, real winter weather, and vibrant culture make Krakow an excellent destination for the holidays. New Year’s Eve, called Sylwester in Poland, is usually considered a family holiday when people gather at home with their loved ones. However, going to a nightclub or reserving a table at a restaurant is also a popular option. Most restaurants and clubs offer a special menu or an entertainment program on New Year's Eve, and all reservations have to be made in advance. But what else is there on this day?
New Year’s Eve on Rynek Główny
Krakow is also one of the best European cities to ring in the New Year on the streets, surrounded by thousands of people. The largest Medieval square in Europe, Rynek Główny (Main Market Square), is the center of all holiday activities in the city. On December 31, it installs a large stage in front of the Kraków Cloth Hall, illuminated from the early hours of the afternoon. By dusk, the square fills with tourists and locals, attracted by live performances as well as a laser and light show.
Countdown & fireworks
The NYE Countdown event in Krakow usually features a free music concert, some spectacular performances, and a laser show right on the square. This free concert runs from 8.30 pm until midnight, featuring Polish and international musicians and performers of various genres. One of the biggest annual concerts in Krakow boasts a festive and warm atmosphere despite cold temperatures outdoors! And, of course, you can witness the NYE fireworks at precisely 12 am.
