Best time: March 31–April 1, 2024
Easter brings a tontу of joy to believers. Together with all the positive emotions, the Czech Republic brings lots of traditional tastes as well. The highlight of the Easter table is roasted lamb with a special parsley-heavy bread stuffing called nádivka. Another famous dish is lamb shaped cake called beránek. They are sweet and can be covered with chocolate. Kids especially love them.
Czechs also prepare Jidáše during Holy Week. These are small buns in the shape of knots or crosses, filled with nuts or poppy seeds. They are named after Judas, one of the twelve apostles, and are traditionally eaten on Maundy Thursday or Green Thursday (Zelený čvrtek). Mazanec is one more traditional food. It is a very rich, brioche-like Easter bread. It is also sweet–made with raisins and other delicious fillings. On the top it is decorated with egg glaze and almonds.
